Private House, Warwickshire

Synergy Architects were appointed to complete the re-design of a large 3-storey period house in the Warwickshire countryside. Interior design services were also provided.

This exciting project offered the chance to provide a blend of period detailing on the exterior with ultra contemporary interiors in keeping with modern living standards. Based on a layout originally by others the brief was to provide a modern ‘white box’ interior that maintained the existing historic building shell. Externally additions of new dormer windows and glass porticos were sensitively detailed to complement the period features of the existing building.

Greatly reduced energy consumption of the building was achieved by super insulating the building fabric and adding solar water heating in combination with the latest high efficiency boilers. Stack effect passive ventilation is also used in conjunction with an open plan ground floor and a triple height entrance foyer. Ground source heat pumps, biomass fuels and CHP boilers were also considered in detail but ruled out due to payback periods.
